We start by walking the house
Before we quote a single sensor, a technician walks your home the way a burglar would. Not metaphorically. Literally. We look at which windows the fence hides, which door the porch light misses, whether the sliding glass in back faces a greenbelt or a neighbor who is home all day. In older neighborhoods inside Loop 410, the weak point is almost always a detached garage and a side gate nobody locks. In the newer subdivisions north of 1604, it is a back door in full view of an unlit easement.
That walk takes twenty minutes and changes everything. It is the difference between a system that covers your house and a system that covers a house. The national brands cannot do it, because the person quoting you has never seen your street and never will. They are reading from a script in a call center two time zones away, and the script does not know that your fence has a gap.
What gets installed, and why
A working residential system is layered. Perimeter first: recessed or surface contacts on every exterior door, plus every ground-floor window that opens. Then glass-break detectors tuned to the acoustic signature of breaking pane — one well-placed detector covers a whole room, which is cheaper and smarter than contacting eight windows. Then interior motion, positioned to catch movement through the natural traffic path from any entry point to the master bedroom, because that is where jewelry and firearms live and that is where intruders go.
On top of that we layer life safety: monitored smoke, heat and carbon monoxide. This is the part homeowners skip and later wish they had not. A monitored smoke detector calls the fire department when the house is empty. The battery-powered one from the hardware store chirps at an empty living room for six hours and then goes quiet.
Everything reports to an encrypted cellular radio with battery backup. Not your Wi-Fi. Not your landline. Cut the cable at the street, kill the power at the meter — the panel still talks, because it was never depending on either one.
The equipment is yours, and so is the choice
We install and service Alarm.com-powered panels, plus Honeywell, 2GIG, Qolsys IQ and GE hardware. If you already own decent equipment, we would rather reprogram it than rip it out. Reactivating a good panel takes an hour and costs a fraction of a full replacement, which is exactly why the companies selling five-year contracts will tell you your panel is obsolete when it is not.
You will own your equipment outright. That sentence is doing a lot of work. It means when you decide to leave us, you keep the hardware, and the next company can take it over. We think an alarm company should have to earn the second year the same way it earned the first. Very few agree with us, which we consider a compliment.

- Our standard agreement runs 12 months and renews year to year — not the 36-to-60-month terms the national brands push. You are never more than a year from a free exit, and the equipment is yours either way.
- How much does a home security system cost? +
- It depends entirely on the house — a 1,400 square-foot bungalow in Alamo Heights and a 4,200 square-foot two-story in Stone Oak are not the same job, and a price that pretends otherwise is a package, not a quote. The survey is free, the number you get is fixed and in writing, and if any licensed competitor quotes you less in writing for comparable scope, we beat it.
- Can you use the alarm panel already in my house? +
- Usually, yes. If the previous owner left a Honeywell, 2GIG, GE or Qolsys panel behind, we can almost always take it over, reprogram it to our central station and have you monitored the same day.
- What happens if the power goes out? +
- The panel carries a sealed backup battery and keeps signaling over cellular. During the February 2021 freeze our monitored accounts stayed online through multi-day outages.
